Community Development District

Riverwood CDD Home Page

The Riverwood Community Development District (CDD) was established under Chapter 190 of the Florida State Statutes and provides for governance by a five member Board of Supervisors. The District was established in 1991 and was intended to fund the Riverwood infrastructure by securing bonds to defray the cost of the development.

The CDD community consists of 1,335 mixed residential units with both multi-family and single family units. The CDD has the responsibility for the maintenance of the lakes and preserves, as well as our streets and sidewalks in “old Riverwood”.  We own and operate the waste water treatment plant that services all of Riverwood and a number of sewer customers outside of Riverwood’s boundaries.

The CDD has a Maintenance Agreement with the Riverwood Community Association, Inc. (RCA) to maintain CDD owned property including the Riverwood Activity Center Campus and the common areas adjacent to the CDD owned streets and sidewalks.  The RCA is also responsible for Riverwood’s security.

Riverwood is located in a beautiful gated golf course community on the scenic Myakka River just off SR 776 in El Jobean, Florida, about 4 miles west of Port Charlotte.  We are one hour from the South West Florida International Airport in Fort Myers.  There are many Gulf of Mexico beaches within a 15 or 20 minute drive including Riverwood’s very own Beach Club.  Shopping and numerous restaurants are also close by.

Baseball fans can enjoy the Major League Tampa Bay Rays spring training games and the Minor League Charlotte Stone Crabs home games that are played at the Charlotte Sports Park within walking distance of Riverwood (about 2 miles).

The relaxed lifestyle of the Riverwood community is worth considering making it your permanent or winter home.
